Happy Halloween MOM I miss you XOXO

Halloween was my Mom’s favorite Holiday she looked so forward to decorating & answering the door, she stayed close because in our neighborhood there were lots of kids, and the bell rang non stop.

This week 11 years ago I had the busiest week of my life, 21 shows, it was crazy to say the least.

My Mom was very sick. I had moved back home for about a month to help my Dad & Aunt Marie take care of my Mom. I still remember one day I called all my clients  for the upcoming shows and explained my dilemma. Each client was given the choice to hire another magician or wait to see what happened.. all of them said they would wait. I did have many of my magician friends on hold if anything happened that week.

After I got off the phone, my Mom said you should go & do all the shows no matter what happens, her exact words were “you have commitments to all those people “I said I have only 1 Mom”, she smiled and said, “it’s your choice”

I did in fact do every show that week. On Halloween I had but just 1 big illusion show @ 3PM in Arlington Heights. Everyday when I would leave I would say ” I WILL SEE YOU WHEN I GET BACK!  I was so afraid I was not going to say goodbye. As soon as the show was over I went to my house for the 1st time in 1 month dropped off the animals and headed back to Mom & Dad’s. I had just knelt down beside the bed, told her I loved her very much, she squeezed my hand & took her last breath.

My Mother was amazing. She was given a very short time & lived 3 years longer then expected. What a fighter she was. The best Mom one could ever have. She raised 7 BOYS with Dad, I’m the oldest.

They were Married 40 years. As you will see in the photo I had very long permed hair (read on). My parents planned do redo their Wedding Vows in March 1999.

My Mom asked me can you do my 1 big favor, I said anything for you! I was not ready for what she was going to ask me…. Can you please cut your hair & buy a suit & pants. I said  I would and  the very next day, I got my hair cut SHORT & bought a new Suit.

I did wear the suit at the renewal of their Vows & showed off my new hair cut! As you can see in the photos from that day forward, I have never let my hair get long again. I look back now and say what was I thinking.

MOM thanks, I did like my new hair cut & I still like it, makes me think of you everyday!

I love you very much & miss you so much, thanks for looking out for me. The following is a poem that she picked out for her mass card.

To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go -

I have so many things to see and do.

You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears.

Be happy that we had so many years.

So grieve a while for me if grieve you must

Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It’s only for a little while that we must part

So bless the memories within your heart.

I gave you my love. You can only guess

How much you gave me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown,

But now it’s time I traveled on alone.

I won’t be far away, for life goes on

So if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near-

And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear

All of my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone,

I’ll greet you with a smile and “Welcome Home”.

Love forever,

Paul XOXOXO
