Behind the scenes of a Magic Show

Where do I start. Well for me it was a Marshall Brodien Magic Set for Christmas about 40 years ago.

When you want to put together a Magic Show, you 1st have to buy the effect / prop, (some can be very expensive) then practice & lots of it. Then you must have a routine and patter. Sometimes you put music to the routine, it took me a year to find a song for the Floating Table.

The animal up keep is a huge undertaking, it’s 24 hours a day. My 2 & 4 legged, fur & feathered assistants need me! Walking the dogs, cleaning the water in the pool once a day for Sarah the duck, cleaning cages, food & water. Lights are on a ┬átimer for the Parrots, so when I have a late night Magic Show the lights are turned off automatically. Merlin Hates when the lights are on past his bed time, and boy can he scream to let you know about it.

I have a 2000 Chevy van with 238,000 miles on it. Oil changes every 3000 to 4000 miles, tires, fuel pumps (yes 2 of them) I did have the intake manifold replaced, tires, 2 alternators & 2 batteries. Did I mention gas, as I write this it’s $316. For the most part it runs GREAT! I love my Chevy Van.

There is lots of office work. I have no secretary I take answer the phone, book the shows, type a contract, scan it email it, etc. I go to the Post Office everyday for my mail.

I work on and design on my own website www.paulleemagic.com (Scott has helped a few times). I do all the advertising & make the choices. I do have an Apple Computer & that does make it a lot easier.

Now it’s drive to location, set up the show, curtains, etc.

Then it’s Show time. People often ask if I love my what I do? Yes I do especcialy the Performing of Magic & Illusions. I never have called what I do a JOB, it’s a adventure. I was born to do Magic. I hope to be doing this for a long, long time.

I can bring a smile to anyone’s face, no matter what has happened that day. I have lots of letters to prove it.

I even had a Magic Birthday Cake!

Magically,

Paul Lee
